The Birth of the Urban Sketchers HK blog

Urban Sketchers Hong Kong (USkHK) has been around for almost 2 years now, but it's only in the last few weeks that we thought we should really get around to setting up a blog. Facebook has served us very well and continues to do so, but our numbers have grown, and the wall flies rapidly by sometimes. There's a lot of good work done, but they zip down so rapidly it's hard to find them again unless one is prepared to do a lot of scrolling.

So how is a blog going to be different?

First, we wanted a place to easily showcase good sketches. This will be the cream of USkHK; a gallery of work that shows the best of our city, with a diverse collection of great artwork that tells the story of where we live. We hope these will also be inspirational examples that you can refer to and learn from. The archive will also make it easier for you to look up posts about certain subjects or articles you're interested in.

We'll also be featuring articles from our members as well as telling Sketchwalk stories. Curious about what happens as we roam the city to draw it, but have not joined us yet? Read first person accounts, discover places you haven't heard of, or rediscover corners you used to know. Then join us on the next Sketchcrawl! (Fun guaranteed.)

After the success of the USkHK's collaboration with City Gallery for the Sketch 1000 exhibition (Oct 2014 - Feb 2015) and the various workshops held in conjunction with the event, we're happy to note that our numbers have grown significantly. Many of our newer members are full of enthusiasm (we love that) and excited about sketching (love that too). Our more experienced members have been approached many, many times for all manner of tips, help and requests for personal tutoring. Much as we'd like to, we're sure you'll understand that it's impossible to help 2000+ people (and growing) individually! In order to make our help accessible to all, help we will - via this blog!

We intend to recap some of the best bits of the workshops held earlier so you can reference them at your own pace. In addition, if there's a particular aspect of sketching you'd like to know more about, let us know in the comments and we'll get around to creating posts and linking resources that will hopefully clear up confusion and point you in the right direction.

We'll let you know on Facebook every time a new post is up, but you can also bookmark this site and come back often to see what's new. Your thoughts and suggestions are always welcome, so join the conversation in the comments!
